San Clemente

Often referred to as the Spanish Village by the Sea, San Clemente is a charming ocean-front community in Orange County. The community’s geographical isolation helps protect its small-town charm from the homogeneous urban sprawl that permeates much of the region. San Clemente’s quaint downtown, Avenida Del Mar, is the city’s shopping and dining destination. In 1969 the city won instant fame when President Nixon purchased Casa Pacifica and it became known as the “Western White House".

This great city was founded in 1925 by real estate developer Ole Hanson who named the city after a town in Spain. Hanson’s vision for San Clemente real estate was to build hundreds of classic white-walled Spanish-style homes, topped with red roof tiles, and hedges of hibiscus, palms, and geraniums along the driveways.

 

Today, you will find numerous San Clemente homes, both historic and new aspiring to the aesthetic spirit and style Ole Hanson wanted for this “Spanish Village by the Sea.” When people first visit San Clemente they are drawn to its charming downtown. Most refer to it as “Avenida Del Mar” a street that runs down the center of town all the way to the San Clemente Pier. Here you will find quaint shops, art galleries, wine bars, and restaurants.
